FAQs

  1. Q: How will Troy Park Tennis and Sports Center be funded?
A: The projected construction cost, including the sitework, tennis center and stadium, is $44.8 million. We need to raise cash for pre-financing development expenses from corporate sponsors, special events and from donations from tennis enthusiasts.
  2. Q: How much money will be needed to develop the center? What is the expected annual operating budget?
A: Howard County Tennis Patrons expects to raise $50 million to develop the center. The mature operating budget will be over $4.0 million per year.
  3. Q: Upon completion, what money will the Center generate for the community?
A: An independent economic development analysis determined that the Center could generate in excess of $2 million in tax revenue and $69 million in direct impact on the Howard County economy during two years of construction and the first three years of operation.
  4. Q: What activities are planned for TPTSC?
A: TPTSC will be a tourism destination for multiple sports and a mecca of tennis learning and playing activities for local, regional and national events. Indoor and outdoor courts will be available for use by the public for recreational play, leagues, public and private events. Of course, tennis lessons will be available for learners at all levels and all ages. We anticipate hosting local, regional and national tournaments. TPTSC has a commitment from the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) to bring a professional tournament to the TPTSC in 2012.
  5. Q: Who can use the facility?
A: Howard County residents will be able to use outdoor courts at no charge. We hope to provide after school programs at greatly subsidized rates funded by USTA and community grants as well as through a unique rental agreement with Howard County. Lessons, indoor courts and event venues will be available at market rates.
  6. Q: When do you expect the Center to be completed and ready to use?
A: HCTP anticipates ground breaking in 2011. We plan to open the Center in Summer 2012 and to be fully operational by Fall 2012. Site development permits have been approved and the start of construction is awaiting approval by Howard County.
  7. Q: Who has signed on to the project?
A: Over 150 supporters have already donated or committed $1.6 million in amounts ranging from $25 to $150,000. Additionally, United States Tennis Association (USTA), University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), Howard Community College (HCC), Greater Elkridge Community Association (GECA), Elkridge Youth Organization (EYO), and Howard County Recreation and Parks Department are all supporters. We are grateful for the support and encouragement of the entire community.
  8. Q: How can I get involved?
A: HCTP has opportunities for volunteers to contribute time, talent and resources to help make this vision a reality. Please visit the Volunteer area of the website to offer your services as a volunteer. We could use your help and you will be contributing to accomplishing something important for our community. We particularly need people with accounting, legal, or marketing skills or with workday availability.
